Curtain Comes Down On Shoalhaven Speedway Season
Mac Campbell posted Friday May 7, 2010.
All roads lead to Fire Service Plus Nowra Speedway tomorrow night to bring down the curtain on an exciting 2009/10 season of action. Over 70 cars from all over the state have nominated across four racing divisions. As well there is the bash and crash of the Demolition Derby to send the season out with a bang.
Highlight of the meeting will be the running of the 2009/10 RSA NSW Street Stocker Title that has attracted a field of 32 of the best Stockers in the state to battle it out over 3 rounds of heats and the all important Championship decider for the right to carry the coveted NSW No1 on their car for the next 12 months. The RSA Title is one of 4 big events to be decided tomorrow night. The Modified Sedans will be chasing bragging rights in the South Coast Showdown while the Wingless Sprints and 4 Cylinder Sedans both vie for honours in their own South Coast Title events.
A quality field lines up for the inaugural South Coast Showdown for Modified Sedans who never fail to thrill the fans with their fast and exciting racing. Headlining a cast of the fast is 2009/10 ACT/NSW Board Champion and recent winner of the NSW Modified Sedan Series Kevin Sherwood in his Macarthur Auto Parts/Reliance Brakes BA Falcon and wants to finish his season off the way he started with a feature win. He will face stiff competition from a two pronged Mazda attack from Wayne Olive and Bega sensation Warwick Hessenberger who will be behind the wheel of the former Allan Moffatt/Greg Hansford ex group C touring car from the 80s that is now converted to a speedway sedan. Also in the mix are the Falcons of Brad Bassett, Geoff Barclay, and Freddy Murphy, up against Shannon Gallagher and Murphy’s brother Shane in their VS Commodores.
The South Coast Title is on the line for the Wingless Sprints who always turn on the action for the Nowra fans and tomorrows event is sure to be no exception. Sydney’s Karl Skelton has been in scintillating form at every appearance this season and will take a lot of beating. He is sure to face a challenge from the likes of Daniel Flood, Sheldon Olling and the female pair of Rachel Neve and Michaela Dumesny who have given the guys a hard time all season.
Rounding off the racing side of things will be the 2009/10 South Coast Title for the popular 4 cylinder sedans. Tomorrow night will be the first time the event has allowed all variations of the 4 cylinder divisions to compete. This has attracted an impressive entry list including the talented brother and sister combination of Mandi Roy and Shane Morris in their Oberon Quarries Ford Lasers, Also making the trip from Lithgow will be current ACT/NSW Board Champion Sue Healey in her Portland Automotive/Ansley Towing Honda Integra. Mark Levin who finished 3rd in the recent NSW Series will be there in his Toyota Corolla as will the Datsun of Chris Green along with Bruce Irvine in his Ford Laser carrying the hopes for a local victory.
If that’s not enough to whet your appetite then the season will finish with a “Bash & Crash” Demolition Derby to bring down the curtain on another season of racing at the Albatross Road venue.
The action commences at the earlier time of 5pm with gates opening from 3pm.
