Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s A V8 Show
Mac Campbell posted Thursday December 17, 2009.
With Christmas just days away what better time to get that final dose of ground pounding adrenalin pumping V8 action tomorrow night at Fire Service Plus Nowra Speedway.
Canberra star Scott McPherson will lead a cast of the fast when the awesome American style V8 Late Models hit town for their first of several appearances this season.
These aluminium missiles always turn on the action for the fans with their awesome power as they lift their front wheels up to a metre off the ground as they unleash the power of their monster V8 Chevy and Mopar engines coming out of the turns.
The Late Models have been putting on some great racing at other tracks this season particularly on the wide open spaces at Sydney’s Parramattta City Raceway.
McPherson will be joined by seasoned campaigners such as Lyle Dicker, Bruce McKenzie and Neil Wallace who has to tow all the way from Coffs Harbour to race his cars around the states dirt tracks.
One car that could steal the show is that of Sydney’s Darryl Grimson whose new paint scheme this season has to be seen to be believed. It looks resplendent in its silver, black and hot pink design and will be a real head turner when he hits the Nowra clay.
Another division making their first appearance this season are the lightning sprints or former litre sprints as they were known.
Current Australian champion Scott Withers will lead an all star cast that includes former multi national champion Sean Barnett who always puts on a great show at Nowra.
They won’t have things all their own way with the likes of Craig Geering, Shane Cooper, Steve Troughton and Mathew Reed in the field to keep them on their toes. These very quick little cars always put on great racing for the fans every time the come to Nowra.
A massive field of 22 Karts have entered for the third round of their East Coast Grand National Kart series tomorrow nights which should ensure some hotly contested heat races and a red hot feature.
Local Sanctuary Point driver Glen Corish will be one of the favourites in the combined Modified & Outlaws class after some impressive performances at Bega and Moruya recently. This very talented driver always puts on a great show with his flat out knockem’ down style of driving.
He will face some stiff opposition from fellow Bay and Basin Bandit Ian Roxburgh, cunning old veteran Nifty Nev Britton, Ray Goodger, exciting young rookie and part time photographer Luke Whitehead and sprintcar driver Glen Saville who should be awesome to watch when he cuts loose on the Nowra clay.
Junior Sedans and the popular Streetstock Sedans will make up the remainder of what should be a great meeting before taking a brief break over Christmas and New Year.
Saturday night January 2nd will be the next meeting at Nowra and one not to miss when the best of the Holden and Ford Modified Sedans take to the track for the annual Holden v Ford Sedan Test Match.
This event in its third year has become one of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated events on the Fire Service Plus Nowra Speedway calendar.
If you are not familiar with how a speedway test match works, it’s simple. 2 Teams of 6 cars and a reserve compete over 12 cut throat heats of 4 laps with 2 cars from each team with points awarded on a 3-2-1 basis then a top 4 super dash for the top 2 points scorers from each team the all in 12 car bar room brawl 10 lap final with the winner being the team with the most points at the end.
So far the scores are locked at 1 win apiece so it will be all out warfare on wheels come January 2nd. There are always prizes for the best dressed Holden and Ford fans which brings out the friendly rivalry in all of us.
Gates open at 4pm tomorrow and Racing kicks off at 6, so bring the family out for a great night of Christmas Holiday Speedway Excitement.
I would like to take this chance to wish each and every reader and speedway fan a safe and happy Christmas and let’s see everyone safe and well back at the speedway after the New Year.
